(STURGIS) – A small crowd came out to hear about a capital improvement plan for Sturgis Public Schools.
Superintendent Dr. Art Ebert presented information on the plan and a proposal for a sinking fund during a Thursday afternoon public meeting held at Five Lake Coffee in downtown Sturgis.
Ebert shared that Tower Pinkster came to Sturgis in October 2018 and did a needs assessment for the District. From there, Ebert met with community members along with school faculty and staff to share that information and get their input on what should be done. Between 400 and 500 individuals attended the meeting.
Based on the surveys done from those who attended, it was decided by the school district to look at a building and site sinking fund to help get the money for these projects. The majority of those surveyed said they were in favor of a ten year sinking fund at 1.75 mills.
Ebert shares how much the 1.75 mills would raise per year for the District. LINKC.
Ebert says there were several comments made on the surveys. Two of them stood out to him and the School Board. LINKD.
The plan is to bring the sinking fund request to the voters in May.
