(LAGRANGE) – The search is underway for a new varsity boys basketball coach for the Lakeland Lakers, after Chris Keil announced that he is stepping down after four seasons of leading the Lakers. Keil says his main reason for leaving is to have more time for this family. Beginning this fall, he will have three children playing college sports and wants to have the flexibility to travel and watch them compete. Keil took over as varsity boys coach for the 2020-2021 season, inheriting a program that had just one winning season in the previous nine years. During his four seasons as head coach, he compiled a record of 47-47, going 33-15 over the last year years. In 2023-2024, the Lakers finished 17-7, their best record since the 2008-2009 campaign. Lakeland also won the NECC regular season title last year, their first title since 2010.
