(LANSING) – Michigan saw their seasonally adjusted jobless rate go up during the month of January.
Data released by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget shows that the jobless rate went from 5.2% in December to 5.3% in January. Total employment in Michigan rose by 6,000 while unemployment increased by 6,000, which results in a workforce gain of 12,000 in January.
The largest increases in employment for the month were Natural Resources and Mining (+2.7%) and Other Services (+1.5%). The largest loss was in Manufacturing (-0.6%).
Wayne Rourke, Labor Market Information Director for Michigan’s Center For Data and Analytics says Michigan businesses showed overall growth in payroll jobs in January.
In January 2024, Michigan’s unemployment rate was 4%.
