(UNDATED) – The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help as they investigate an assault.
St. Joseph County Chief Deputy Zachary Zuk says Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the Sturgis Hospital Emergency Room at 3:40 Sunday afternoon to speak to a victim of a felonious assault involving a firearm. The 19 year old victim had been assaulted earlier that morning at a residence in the 63,000 block of Shimmel Road.
As part of the ongoing investigation surveillance led to Deputies initiating a felony traffic stop on southbound U.S. 131 in Constantine Township. During the stop, a suspect was taken into custody without incident. They are being held in the St. Joseph County Jail.
Zuk says information was later obtained that a second suspect might be at the Shimmel Road residence. That resulted in the activation of the St. Joseph County Special Response Team, who assisted in executing a search warrant at the residence. Several firearms were located but the second suspect was not.
The incident remains under investigation. If anyone has information regarding this incident they are asked to call St. Joseph County Central Dispatch at 269-467-4195.
