(CENTREVILLE) – St. Joseph County voters approved a renewal of the 911 millage.
St. Joseph County Central Dispatch was asking for a renewal of their millage, but at a lower rate of .9 mills instead of 1 mill. The renewal was passed with 6,278 Yes votes to 743 No votes. That’s an 89.4% to 10.5% margin.
Funds generated by the millage support maintenance of the 911 telephone services; 24-7 emergency dispatch operations for police, fire and EMS and after hours emergency contact for essential services.
The millage is also used to fund other tasks, such as encryption of emergency radios which is a Federal mandate.
The millage will be in effect from January 2026 through December 2030.
