Kidnapping Suspect Arrested In Northeast Indiana

(STEUBEN COUNTY) – A man who is a suspect in the kidnapping of a minor in Michigan was arrested in Northeast Indiana.

DeKalb County Dispatch says they were informed of a 14 year old who was picked up in Ionia, Michigan by a man from Kentucky. The Ionia County Sheriff's Department notified them of the vehicle description and suspect information, and that was then passed on to other enforcement agencies, including the Indiana State Police.

A Trooper found the vehicle at a rest park on I-69 South in Steuben County at the 344 mile marker just before 1 AM on July 12. After investigating the Trooper identified the suspect, 42 year old Chayleang Tiang of Paris, Kentucky , who was found to be with the minor.

After a more thorough investigation, it was determined that Tiang had driven from Kentucky to Michigan to meet the juvenile.

Troopers arrested Tiang for kidnapping on a warrant issued by the Ionia County Sheriff’s Department. He is being held in the Steuben County Jail waiting to be extradited to Michigan. The 14 year old was taken back to her guardians.
