(BURR OAK TOWNSHIP) – Authorities have released the name of the person who died in a fatal crash over the weekend.
The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office says the victim has been identified as 20 year old Edgar Eduardo Hernández-Alcantar of Sturgis.
Deputies were called out at 6:25 AM Sunday for a single vehicle crash in the area of Lafayette Road and Big Hill Road in Burr Oak Township. Deputies found the vehicle off the roadway with significant damage.
Hernandez-Alcantar was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, also a 20 year old man, sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital. He is now listed in stable condition. His name is not being released as the crash is still under investigation.
The preliminary findings suggest that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash.
