Mendon Man Injured In Accidental Shooting

(MENDON TOWNSHIP) - A Mendon man was injured in what authorities are calling an accidental shooting.

The St. Joseph County Sheriff's Office says a 46 year old man was placing a loaded pistol into a safe at a residence in the 24000 block of Pinhook Road in Mendon Township. The firearm fell to the ground and discharged a single round, striking the man in the abdomen.

The man was able to call 911 and apply pressure to the wound until first responders arrived. There was no exit wound.

The man was transported to a local hospital, where he was alert and conscious upon arrival, and was immediately taken into surgery.

He is currently listen in stable and good condition.

The Mendon Police Department, Michigan State Police and Life Care Ambulance assisted at the scene.
