(STURGIS) - The number of homeless people in Sturgis continues to grow.

The question is what can or should be done?

During a recent meeting, the Sturgis City Commission heard from three citizens about issues they have had with homeless individuals near their businesses. One person says they keep finding trash and other items near their property. Another says they have an issue with homeless people breaking into their buildings and stealing items. The third says she has seen homeless people walking across her business property when children and their parents are there.

The idea of holding a work session was brought up. Vice Mayor Jeff Mullins says the City held a work session a few years ago to discuss the homeless, but nothing came out of that. He says there is an underlying problem that is at the core of the issue. Mullins says during the last work session is was shared with the Commission that many of the homeless people don't want a place to go.

Mayor Frank Perez says the homeless issue is a "we" issue and needs to be looked into. (LISTEN ABOVE).

No further discussion was held regarding a future work session on the matter.
