(STURGIS) - Sturgis Mayor Frank Perez has issued a media release following the findings of an investigation into the City Commission.
In the release, Perez says as Mayor of Sturgis, his commitment to this community has always guided him through three decades of service. However, when faced with the allegations raised in March 2026, Perez says he allowed his initial feelings of frustration and confusion to cloud his judgment.
For those actions, and for the impact they had, Perez says he offers his sincere unreserved apologies to the City Commissioners, City staff, my family, and the residents of Sturgis. Perez says he fully accepts the recommendations in the investigation report and is committed to completing all required training.
Moving forward, Perez says his priority is to work constructively alongside his follow commission colleagues to rebuild trust, strengthen our processes, and serve the community with the transparency and integrity they deserve.
The investigation concluded that Perez along with four Commissioners did not violate the Open Meetings Act through their participation in meetings with each other on March 24 and March 28.
The investigation did determine that Perez violated Chapter IX, Section 4 (n) of the City Charter and he acted in a manner inconsistent with Section 1 of the Commission Procedural Policy.
