(STURGIS) - The City of Sturgis is looking into health care options for the community.
During Wednesday's City Commission meeting Barry Cox asked if there was any information regarding Sturgis Hospital.
Interim City Manager Doug Terry says the City is working diligently to get health care back to Sturgis. Terry says through the Planning and Zoning Departments and the Economic Development Corporation, a prospectus has been put together on the Hospital. Terry says he plans on sending that out to different groups. Terry says he also met with a representative of the Sturgis Area Community Foundation where it was said Beacon Health System is interested in restoring health services to Sturgis.
Terry says he plans to send out the prospectus to Henry Ford Hospital, the University of Michigan, Corwell Health and Beacon Health. He says they have received information from another group out of Chicago, and an inquiry from a group of doctors from the Lansing area. (LISTEN ABOVE)
Terry says if an organization does choose to come to Sturgis they may or may not be in the former Sturgis Hospital building.
Terry says Sturgis would like to restore health care that hopefully would include urgent care, an imaging lab and possibly outpatient and rehab services.
