(STURGIS) - Today is the first day of school for many districts in Michigan.

Locally, Sturgis, White Pigeon, Constatine and Mendon along with Colon and Bronson will start classes today. Three Rivers will begin on Tuesday, and Centreville started last week.

For Sturgis High School students who are taking the Culinary Arts class, there will be a new location for the class according to Superintendent Dr. Art Ebert. The class has been held at the Sturges-Young Center For The Arts. Ebert says a new lab is being built at Sturgis High School. If it's not quite ready, then students will start the class at SYCA and then transition to Sturgis High School.

Ebert says there has also been some work to the student drop off location at Eastwood School. Traditionally student drop off has been in the parking lot behind the press box. With the new parking lot behind Eastwood and the extension of Myrtle Street, Ebert says students can be dropped off either off of Myrtle or off of Franks. (LISTEN ABOVE).

Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously if they travel by schools. Watch for students being dropped off and picked up, and for children walking to school. Additionally if you follow a school bus, make sure you stop and give them plenty of room when they are picking up or dropping off students.
