(HILLSDALE) - A former Hillsdale County resident has been sentenced for second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel says 58 year old Kevin Murphy was sentenced on Friday in Hillsdale County Circuit Court to 3 to 15 years in prison. He pled no contest to one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct for assaulting a minor victim in 2025.

A second count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct for sexually assaulting a second minor was dismissed at the time of the sentencing.

However, the plea and sentencing agreement establish the crime victim rights for both assaults will be attached to his conviction. That ensures that both minor survivors, ages 9 and 12 at the time of the assaults, maintain their victim rights before the Court.

Murphy was initially charged by the Hillsdale County Prosecutor's Office in October 2025. He was found in Kentucky and extradited to Michigan through Operation Survivor Justice in March 2026.

Upon his release from prison, Murphy will be subject to lifetime electronic monitoring and lifetime sex offender registration.
