(COLDWATER) - Insight Hospital & Medical Center Coldwater announced Wednesday the temporary suspension of inpatient behavioral health services.

This will go into effect on July 22 as the hospital advances plans to modernize its behavioral health unit and strengthen the environment in which care is delivered.

The decision follows a comprehensive evaluation of the inpatient behavioral health program, including the physical environment, operational needs, the increasing complexity of patient care, and input from physicians, caregivers, and clinical leadership. The planned improvements reflect Insight's ongoing commitment to providing high-quality care in an environment that best supports both patients and healthcare professionals.

Rick VanGessel, Chief Hospital Executive and Chief Nursing Officer says behavioral health remains an essential part of their mission and their commitment to the communities they serve. VanGessel says this temporary suspension allows Insight Coldwater to focus on planning meaningful improvements that will strengthen their inpatient behavioral health program for the future. He says the goal is to restore these services in a modernized environment that supports high-quality patient care and the dedicated professionals who provide it.

Throughout the transition, Insight Hospital will continue to provide behavioral health services through its Emergency Department and outpatient behavioral health program. The hospital is also working closely with regional hospitals, community mental health agencies, emergency medical services, and other healthcare partners to ensure patients requiring inpatient behavioral health services continue to receive timely and appropriate care.

Insight is actively advancing planning efforts and pursuing funding opportunities to support the modernization project. The timing of reopening will depend on project planning, funding approvals, construction, regulatory requirements, and other necessary approvals. The hospital remains committed to restoring inpatient behavioral health services following completion of these improvements.
