(INDIANAPOLIS) - Three Northern Indiana regions will be under an Air Quality Action Day on Thursday.
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management issued the forecasted air quality action day, saying that fine particulate matter (PM2.5) levels are expected to be in the Unhealthy range (Red) and ozone levels are expected to be in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups range (Orange) in Northeast Indiana, including the cities of LaGrange, Angola, Decatur, Fort Wayne, Hartford, Huntington City, Marion, Portland, Wabash and all other cities within the area.
Also under the Air Quality Action Day will be North Central Indiana, including the cities of Elkhart, Goshen, South Bend, Knox, Logansport, Plymouth, Peru, Warsaw, Winamac and all other cities withing the area.
In addition Northwest Indiana will also be under the Air Quality Action Day.
Significant concentrations of wildfire smoke currently behind a front will move into Indiana from the north on Thursday. This smoke, in addition to the other meteorological factors, such as light winds and recent stagnant conditions, will produce PM2.5 readings.
