(STURGIS) - Sturgis Public Schools is looking into a food service agreement with Burr Oak Schools.
During Monday's Sturgis Board of Education meeting, Finance Director Ray Sterling shared that Burr Oak School officials reached out to see about joining with Sturgis to have Taher provide food service for their students.
Burr Oak had to contact the State of Michigan, and Sterling says the State told Burr Oak there are two ways to do it. They could go out for bid or ask Sturgis if they will partner with them. Sterling says if approved, Burr Oak would come under Sturgis as a "sight" like Nottawa School and Trinity are.
Sterling says he and Superintendent Dr. Art Ebert met with Taher and they were interested in working with Burr Oak. He says the application was sent to the State and they are waiting for an answer.
Ebert told the Board of Education that if the agreement is approved, then Taher would hire personnel to prepare the meals for Burr Oak students at the Burr Oak School building.
Sterling says there would be a three year agreement between Sturgis and Burr Oak Schools. The first year, Burr Oak would pay Sturgis $20,000. There would be a 3% increase in each of the next two years.
