Cassopolis Man Arrested In Shooting And Assault Incidents

(CASSOPOLIS) - A suspect has been arrested in two separate incidents.

Cass County Sheriff Clint Roach says at 9:22 AM July 4, deputies were dispatched to an accident on White Street and Dailey Road, where 33 year old Wiliam Werner of Cassopolis had crashed his vehicle into a utility pole. When he got out of the vehicle he assaulted a female victim.

As deputies investigated the matter, they discovered that a shooting took place in the 62,000 block of Stephenson Street in Cassopolis. At that time Werner shot at a vehicle that was occupied by two adults and four juveniles. No injuiries were reported.

Werner was arrested on multiple charges including two counts of attempted murder; two counts of second degree child abuse; assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder; four counts of felony firearms; aggravated assault; reckless driving; carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent and tampering with evidence.

Werner is being held in the Cass County Jail following his arraignment in District Court, with bond set at $1 million.
