(COLDWATER) - The City of Coldwater has issued a statement regarding ICE personnel in the City.
The statement says at 4:48 AM on July 2, Branch County Central Dispatch was notified of the presence of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel in the community. The City of Coldwater was not notified in advance of this federal operation.
Based on the information currently available, ICE is seeking a limited number of specific individuals. It is the City's understanding that there is no intention to maintain a long-term presence. Because this is a federal law enforcement matter, the City has no further information regarding the nature of the operation.
Questions regarding ICE's activities or immigration enforcement should be directed to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency or the appropriate federal authorities.
The statement says the City will continue to provide accurate information as it becomes available and encourages residents to rely on official sources for updates.
If anyone has questions, they can be directed to Coldwater City Manager Keith Baker by calling 517-279-6911. He can also be reached by e-mailing Kbaker@coldwater.org.
