(BRONSON) - The Branch County Sheriff's Office helped out with a missing person investigation.

Sheriff Fred Blankenship says on Tuesday his office assisted the Coldwater Police Department with an ongoing missing person investigation in the Coldwater area. During the investigation, a Detective with the Sheriff's Office received information indicating the missing individual may have been deceased and that possible remains could be located in the area behind the ProMedica/Insight building in Bronson.

Blankenship says his office deployed cadaver canines to assist with the search, and the canines provided a positive alert. As a result, the Michigan State Police Crime Lab from Lansing responded to assist with the investigation and search efforts.

After an extensive and thorough search of the area, no human remains were located.

Also assisting with the search were the Bronson Police Department, the Bronson Department of Public Works, the Michigan State Police and the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi Tribal Police.

More information on the missing person investigation will be released later.
