(STURGIS) - Sturgis Public Schools has their budget for the 2026-2027 school year.

Monday night during their meeting, the Sturgis Board of Education held a public hearing on the budget. Finance Director Ray Sterling explained that the proposed budget would reflect a $250 increase in the per pupil funding allowance, bringing the total to $10,300 per student.

Sterling shares with the Board what the projected budget revenue for the 2026-2027 school year is $42,708,568. That's a $700,000 increase from the 2025-2026 budget.

Sterling next shares the proposed total expenditures for the 2026-2027 budget is $43,225,000. That's a $1.1 million increase compared to the final 2025-2026 budget expenditures.

Because of those numbers, Sterling says that would bring a change in fund equity of just over $517,000. That still leaves the School District with a fund balance of 26%.

The Sturgis School Board approved the 2026-2027 budget by a unanimous vote.
