(MENDON) - Great pitching and timely hitting was the key for the host Mendon softball team Saturday as the No. 1 ranked Lady Hornets won a Division 4 Regional Championship. In their semifinal game, Mendon beat Bridgman 6-3 in 9 innings. Then in the Championship game, the Lady Hornets beat No. 10 Gobles 6-5. Gobles beat Colon 14-1 in their semifinal game. Rowan Allen got the pitching wins for the Mendon, going the full 9 innings in game one and 7 innings in game two, striking out 19 batters on the day. Allen also had some key hits including driving in 2 runs against Gobles to cement the win. Mendon is now 29-3 and will face Petersburg Summerfield in a Quarterfinal game Tuesday afternoon at Bailey Park in Battle Creek.
