(STURGIS) - It was an early start Thursday for the Sturgis Department of Public Safety Fire Division.
Fire fighters responded to a residential structure fire at 511 Mechanic Street at 4:39 AM Thursday. Crews reported a fully involved garage fire that had extended to the home and the neighboring home directly to the west of the property.
Firefighters started an aggressive fire attack and confirmed the homeowner was not present at the time of the incident. There were no pets inside the residence.
The garage was completely engulfed in flames, causing damage to the attached home. Due to the intense heat from the garage contents, the home to the west and the neighbor's garage to the south also sustained exterior damage.
The fire was extinguished by the Sturgis Fire Division with assistance from the Tri-Township Fire Department. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
