(JACKSON) - U.S. Congressman Tim Walberg is running for re-election.

Walberg, a Republican who represents Michigan's 5th Congressional District, turned in his paperwork Monday to appear on the August 4th Republican Primary ballot. He is the only Republic candidate thus far who has filed paperwork to appear on the ballot ahead of the April 21 filing deadline.

Walberg says if he is re-elected, he looks to continue the work that he did in the current term. That includes authoring over $280 billion in savings for taxpayers in the Working Families Tax Cuts; ushering in desperately needed reforms to higher education, leading efforts and passing legislation to lower health care costs, protecting the Great Lakes and securing millions of dollars in critical investments for communities.
