(CONSTANTINE) - The Village of Constantine experienced a Sanitary Sewer Overflow at its wastewater treatment facility on Friday.
Village officials say the overflow was first observed at approximately 4 PM Friday and stopped at approximately 4:20 PM. The event appears to be associated with a malfunction involving the influent control gates at the facility.
The overflow was contained within on-site drainage areas at the wastewater treatment facility. No discharge to the St. Joseph River or surrounding areas was observed.
No estimate of the overflow volume is yet available. The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy has been notified of the incident, and the Pollution Emergency Alerting System hotline was contacted.
