(LANSING) - Individuals and businesses that were impacted by the March 6 tornadoes are eligible for State tax extension relief.

That was the announcement made by Michigan State Treasurer Rachel Eubanks in a media release.

Taxpayers in St. Joseph, Branch and Cass Counties can request time to file State tax returns and pay State tax bills. Penalties and interest will be waived for those who qualify.

The extension only applies for Michigan State tax filings, not Federal taxes.

Taxpayers can contact the Treasury Department online at Michigan.gov/mitreasuryeservices for individual income tax; or by calling 517-636-4496.

For business taxes you can go online to www.etreas.Michigan.gov/bt for business taxes. You may also call 517-636-6925.
