(BETHEL TOWNSHIP) - A fire over the weekend destroyed a Bethel Township barn and its contents.

Bronson Fire Chief Scott Wilbur says his department had responded to grass fire Saturday at 6 PM in the 200 block of Lockwood Road. While still there, they received a second call about a barn fire on the property.

When fire crews arrived, they found a 30 by 50 foot pole barn that was fully engulfed in flames, and a grass fire that was moving toward another barn.

An engine from the Coldwater Fire Department along with the Union City and Lakeland Fire Departments provided mutual aid. Together, they put out the barn fire and the grass fire which stopped other buildings from being damaged.

Wilbur says the early investigation shows that the fire started from a cutting tool that was used to demolish a mobile home. He says approximately 30,000 gallons of water was used to put out the fire. No injuries were reported.

No damage estimates have been released, and Wilbur says the property owners had no insurance on the barn.
