Goshen Man Charged In Crash That Injures Child

(HARRISON TOWNSHIP) - A man has been arrested following a crash that injured him and a child.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened at 7:10 PM Thursday on County Road 30 between County Road 9 and County Road 11.

According to investigators, Victor Soto was driving east at a high rate of speed. He passed another eastbound vehicle in a no-passing zone, then lost control of his vehicle which rolled several times and landed on its roof.

Deputies say an 8 year old boy who was a passenger in the vehicle suffered multiple brain bleeds and skull fractures along with a cut to his left leg. He was initially take to Elkhart General Hospital and later transferred to South Bend Memorial Hospital.

Soto received cuts to his face and some bruising over his body.

Investigators say Soto showed multiple signs of intoxication and failed standardized field sobriety tests. They say he later took a certified breath test and which showed a breath alcohol concentration of 0.110.

Soto was taken to the Elkhart County Jail on preliminary charges of operating while intoxicated causing bodily injury; operating while intoxicated with a passenger younger than 18; reckless driving and neglect of a dependent.
