(NOTTAWA) - Nottawa Community Schools has released information on an accident involving one of their buses on M-86 and Lepley Road.
Nottawa Superintendent Jerome Wolff says at 7:12 Monday morning, a Nottawa school bus was entering M-86 from a private drive when it was struck by another vehicle. A Nottawa Schools employe enroute to work came upon the scene and immediately stopped to assist the children and bus driver and called emergency responders.
Wolfe says he was notified of the accident and immediately drove to the scene.
Wolfe says the bus driver and students followed the evacuation protocol. First responders evaluated all the children before releasing them to the school. No child was seriously injured. The bus driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for further evaluation.
No other people were injured in the accident.
Wolfe says they understand that an event like this can be very upsetting for students and families. He says they have and will have additional support at the school to talk with students as needed.
Wolfe says they consider the safety of their students, including their transportation to and from school, to be one of the school's most important responsibilities. He says they are thankful that no one was seriously injured. However, Wolfe says they will be carefully evaluating this incident to best prevent any further transportation accidents from ever happening.
