(STURGIS) - One person was arrested following a weekend incident near a Sturgis business.
The Sturgis Department of Public Safety says at 1:45 AM Sunday officers were dispatched to the area of the Meijer Store for a felony retail fraud and a hit and run accident. The suspect vehicle was gone before officers arrived, but they were able to locate it a short time later.
When officers attempted to make a traffic stop, the suspect vehicle, a U-Haul truck, fled from police, and was driving without its lights on.
The U-Haul crashed on Franks Avenue, and both the driver and passenger ran away.
A female suspect was detained and later arrested on numerous felony charges, including probation violation along with resisting and obstructing arrest.
A warrant request was submitted for the man, who was the driver, for multiple felony charges, including fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing arrest, retail fraud first degree and possession of methamphetamine.
