(CENTREVILLE) - 2025 turned out to be a year of challenges and transitions for the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Office.
In a post on the Sheriff's Office Facebook page, St. Joseph County Sheriff Chad Spence says as he reflects back on his first year in office one thing is clear, and that is the office is strong because of the people who serve in it and because of the community they serve.
Spence says over the past year there were tests to the organization and every person in it. Through this uncertainty he says the deputies, volunteer divisions and civilian staff continued to show up every day with professionalism, integrity and commitment to the community. Much of that work happens quietly, without recognition, but it matters and he sees it.
Spence says he wants to sincerely thank the men and women of the Sheriff's Office who chose to stay, to believe in this organization, and to help build something better for the future. That decision reflects dedication not just to a job, but to each other and to the long-term success of this office. The teamwork, pride, and professionalism he sees across this agency gives them a strong foundation moving forward.
Spence also wants to recognize the families of the staff. Law enforcement doesn't stop at the end of a shift. Long hours, missed holidays, and constant concern are part of this calling, and none of this work is possible without the support and sacrifice of the families.
To the citizens of St. Joseph County Spence wants to say Thank You for your support, your patience, and your renewed belief in the Sheriff's Office. He says your confidence matters and they do this work for the community, and it's their trust that guides the Office's efforts every day.
Looking ahead to 2026, Spence says the office is focused on practical improvements that make this job safer, more efficient, and more sustainable, investing in equipment, facilities, training, communication, and mental wellness.
