(SHERWOOD) – An incident in Sherwood has landed a man behind bars.
Michigan State Police from the Coldwater Detachment were called to a residence in Sherwood at 6 PM Monday, where a woman says her boyfriend assaulted her. The woman left the house and called authorities from a neighbor's residence.
Troopers arrived and were told the man had fled the scene. They found his automobile hidden in a wooded area approximately a half mile from Barnhart Road near Webb Road in Batavia Township.
A K-9 officer was brought in and tracked the 54 year old Sherwood man to an area a quarter mile away, where he was hiding behind some fallen trees. He was arrested on a charge of felonious assault and taken to the Branch County Jail.
The victim was treated for non life threatening injuries. Troopers say alcohol may have been a possible factor in the incident, which remains under investigation.
