(GARRETT) – A member of the Garrett Common Council along with his wife and son are facing charges of theft.
According to DeKalb County Superior Court documents, 66 year old Bobby Diederich, 62 year old Julie Diederich and 37 year old Ryan Diederich are all facing felony charges of theft and obstruction of justice. This is in connection with the theft of a coffee grinder and an espresso machine along with other items from The Grind, which is a mobile coffee trailer.
Bobby Diederich is the At Large member of the Garrett Common Council.
Court documents says that on February 10, DeKalb County Detectives began to investigate the theft from The Grind that happened in July. The owner, Kayla Wegman, said she originally reported the theft to the Garrett Police Department.
Wegman says the theft happened while she was out of town between July 19 and July 24, and the items were valued at over $6,000. She said she owned the items for over six years and believed that her ex-husband Ryan Diederich and his family were involved in the theft.
On February 12, Detectives went through the drive through a The Coffee Cabin, which is owned by Bobby and Julie Diederich. Detectives noticed what they believed was the stolen items and they were able to obtain a search warrant.
While executing the search warrant, Bobby and Julie Diederich arrived and were asked to provide receipt for the espresso machine. Bobby Diederich said he could provide it, but never did.
The espresso machine was seized during the search. Wegman identified it and it was also matched through the serial number.
Bobby, Julie and Ryan Diederich were all arrested on Friday and taken to the DeKalb County Jail.
