(STURGIS) - The City of Sturgis will begin accepting permit applications for the keeping of urban chickens starting January 13, 2025.
City officials say the applications are available at in the Community Development Department of City Hall, 130 North Nottawa Road.
Residents who have kept chickens prior to obtaining a permit who apply by January 31, 2025, will be waived the fee for keeping of chickens prior to permit.
City officials say that submitting an application does not guarantee approval. Properties must meet all ordinance requirements to qualify for a permit. If your property does not comply with the ordinance, you will not be permitted to keep chickens at that location, regardless of prior ownership.
