The Coldwater Department of Public Safety says two Coldwater High School students were heading into the building when they heard what they thought was gunfire. They contacted school administrators, who issued a Shelter in Place for students to remain in their classrooms.
Coldwater Police Officers along with the School Resource Officers from Coldwater High School and Coldwater Middle School launched an investigation, and determined the gunshots were coming from target practice happening at the Lakeland Correctional Facility.
More target practice is set to be going on today until 6 PM.
