(CENTREVILLE) – A Mendon man has been sentenced for a police standoff that happened last year.
St. Joseph County Circuit Court officials say 38 year old Terrell Reese was sentenced to a term of 9 to 30 years in prison, after he plead no contest to assault with intent to murder..
On September 17, 2023, the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic violence call at Reece’s home in the 200 block of Lane Avenue in Mendon. When deputies entered the home, they found Reese trying to open a safe and there were bullets on the floor.
Shots were fired at the deputies a few moments later. They exited the house and set up a perimeter, and told neighbors to stay inside as they tried to talk Reese into coming out.
Shortly after midnight tear gas was shot into the house and deputies were able to arrest Reese. He was originally charged at the time with three counts of attempted murder of a police officer and nine felony firearm charges.
