(NAPPANEE) – Authorities are investing a fatal vehicle crash that claimed the life of an individual.
At 12:55 PM Friday, the Nappanee Police Department and the Indiana State Police responded to a single vehicle rollover crash on Tomahawk Trail near ATC Trailers in Nappanee.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a straight tanker truck was heading south on Tomahawk Trail, when it’s believed the truck ran off the road to the right and lost control. The truck, came back on the road, and it rolled onto the right side and slid south. It then caught on fire and spun, coming to rest facing north in the northbound lane.
The driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene by the Elkhart County Coroner’s Office. Their name has not been released, pending a positive identification and an autopsy.
Assisting at the scene were the Nappanee, Bremen and Elkhart Fire Departments, along with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.
The crash is still under investigation.
