(FAWN RIVER TOWNSHIP) – November 30 marked the five year anniversary of when a St. Joseph County woman disappeared.
On November 30, 2018, 23 year old Brittany Wallace Shank went missing. According to the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department, Shank left her grandmother’s house after doing laundry and in the 33,000 block of Fawn River Road near Workman Road in Fawn River Township, had a minor car wreck at 9:41 PM.
Then St. Joseph County Sheriff Brad Balk says their investigation determined that Shank knocked on two doors because she had bad cell service. The residents of the second home let her use their phone to call 911. They told deputies that Shank was bloodied, and was not wearing a coat or socks. That was the last time she was seen.
Law enforcement authorities along with family and friends have searched the area several times, hoping to find clues as to what happened to Brittany, but so far have not been successful.
Detective/Sergeant Jason Auton of the Sheriff’s Department took over the investigation in March of 2022 and has dedicated much of his time to finding Brittany. Officers from several different departments have continued to search multiple locations in various areas throughout Michigan and Indiana using drones, cadaver dogs and search groups.
St. Joseph County Undersheriff Jason Bingaman says his department is committed to continue to give this case the full attention it deserves, to find Brittany and bring some closure to those grieving.
Brittany is 5 feet 1 inch tall, 110 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes. She was seen earlier in the day with a white man between 5 feet 6 and 5 feet 8 inches, who had short blonde hair with mutton chop type sideburns. He appeared to be in his early to mid 20's.
If anyone has information on Brittany, they are asked to call the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department at 269-467-9045.
