(QUINCY TOWNSHIP) – Authorities are looking into a situation where a dog was shot in Quincy Township by a law enforcement officer.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says their deputies along with the Coldwater Police Department were helping the Quincy Police execute a search warrant at 9:15 Sunday morning. When they came into the house, the officers were met by an aggressive dog that bit one of the officers in the hand.
Officers tried to subdue and restrain the dog, but not being able to do so, they shot the dog.
The officer that was attacked is in stable condition with a non life threatening injury.
It is not known which department’s officer shot the dog. Assisting at the scene were the Quincy Fire Department, the Branch County Sheriff’s Reserve Unit and Life Care Ambulance.
Both the Sheriff’s Department and the Coldwater Police are conducting the investigation into the shooting.
