February Unemployment Rates Mixed Around Southern Michigan

(LANSING) - Unemployment rates were mixed around Southern Michigan during the month of February.

According to information released by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, St. Joseph County saw their unemployment rate go down from a January figure of 5.9% to 5% in February. That’s a drop of nine-tenths of a percent.

Cass County’s unemployment rate dropped from 5.7% to 5.4%, a decrease of three-tenths of a percent. Branch County stayed the same from January to February at 4.9%.

Hillsdale County say a slight increase in their unemployment rate, going from 5% in January to 5.1% in February.

Statewide, the unemployment rate decreased from 4.8% to 4.6%, which is a drop of two-tenths of a percent.

Wayne Rourke, the Labor Market Information Director of the Michigan Center for Data and Analytics says 44 Michigan counties demonstrated unemployment rate increases over the month, while 22 counties exhibited rate decreases and 17 counties remained unchanged.
