(STEUBEN COUNTY) – A traffic stop on the Indiana Toll Road led to the arrest of two men on drug related charges.
The Indiana State Police say troopers stopped a vehicle at 1:15 Monday morning near Mile Marker 140 in Steuben County for an unsafe lane change. The two men in the vehicle told troopers they were traveling from California back to Massachusetts.
Both men appeared to be impaired. Troopers saw open alcohol containers in the automobile and there was also a strong smell of marijuana. During a probable cause search of the vehicle, troopers found a garbage bag in the spare tire well, that contained 10 bags of marijuana, which weighed one pound each.
Police did a battery of field sobriety tests on the driver, 24 year old Eric Mwangi. He was arrested on charges of dealing marijuana, possession of marijuana and operating while intoxicated.
The passenger, 30 year old Abdulkarim Mbarushimana, was arrested on a felony count of dealing marijuana. Both men are being held in the Steuben County Jail.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.
