(STURGIS) – The City of Sturgis has a budget for the 2022-2023 Fiscal Year.
During Wednesday’s meeting the Sturgis City Commission held a public hearing on the proposed budget. During the Commission’s July 27 meeting, Sturgis City Manager Mike Hughes gave an overview of the budget’s general fund. LINKC.
Commissioner Richard Bir had questions about some of the projects that the City will be undertaking in the upcoming year, such as repaving some of the downtown parking lots and the expansion of the White Elephant retention basin. Bir questioned if the City will have the funds to do these projects, since many had been put off over the last few years and costs have gone up.
Hughes acknowledged Bir’s comments and did say that some of those projects were also being partially paid for by grants. Hughes says there were other matters that the City and the Commission should be concerned about. LINKD.
The Commission approved the 2022-2023 budget by a 5-2 vote with Commissioners Bir and Frank Perez casting the No votes.
