More Information Released On Graber Fire
Monday, June 27, 2022

(CONSTANTINE) – More Information has been released on last Friday’s fire at Graber Industries.

According to the Centreville Fire Department the fire was reported around 10 AM. A call went out from St. Joseph County Central Dispatch a few moments later for all available tanker trucks and fire departments to respond. All total, 12 fire departments were called out to fight the fire, including the Burr Oak, Mendon and Colon Fire Departments.

Later in the afternoon, a call was sent out to have any available firefighters come to the scene and take over for those who had been battling the blaze on a hot weather day.

Investigators say the fire started in one of the buildings that housed lumber, and then spread to two other structures.

Graber Industries, which has been selling RV supplies since the 1950’s, reported on their Facebook page that Building 1 and Building 2 along with a side building are gone from the fire. Smoke could be seen as far as Sturgis.

Investigators have not given an official cause for the fire. There has been conjecture it was electrical in nature because of animals messing with wires.

Graber has stated on their Facebook page that they still have three buildings standing. They will be closed for the next several weeks to cleanup and then hopefully be reopening. They will also be doing some online sales in the very near future.
