(CENTREVILLE) – A Sturgis man has been found guilty on multiple charges following a two day trial.
St. Joseph County Prosecutor David Marvin says a St. Joseph County Circuit Court jury found 24 year old Adalberto (Jacob) Garcia of Sturgis guilty of using the internet to commit a crime and two counts of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material.
A tip from SnapChat and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding child sexually abusive material possessed by a Sturgis man started the investigation. Michigan State Police worked the case, and obtained search warrants for SnapChat and Charter Communications. That led them to get a search warrant for Garcia’s house at 109 Susan Street, where police found evidence that led to his arrest.
Garcia is scheduled to be sentenced on July 22, and faces up to 20 years in prison because he is a habitual second offender. Garcia was previously convicted of Fourth Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, and was on felony probation at the time these offenses were committed.
