(ANGOLA) – More charges have been filed against a man accused of killing his former neighbor.
Information found online with the State of Indiana show the Steuben County Prosecutors Office has filed additional charges of rape while armed with a deadly weapon, burglary while armed with a deadly weapon and abuse of a corpse against 29 year old Matthew Hoover of Anderson, Indiana.
The Steuben County Sheriff's Department arrested Hoover August 4 in Anderson. He was initially charged with murder in the stabbing death of 82 year old Wilma Ball at her Lake James residence.
Steuben County Sheriff Rodney Robinson says his department was sent to a residence at 395 Lake James Lane 200 East in Pleasant Township around 12:30 PM on June 23 after receiving reports of an unresponsive woman inside the home.
Deputies arrived and found Ball dead from a stab wound. According to court documents, authorities say Hoover left behind two beer cans near Ball's body. Investigators sent them to the Indiana State Police lab for DNA analysis, which helped identify Hoover and lead to his arrest.
An initial hearing on the new charges will be held Monday afternoon. A five day jury trial is scheduled to begin November 29.
