(UNDATED) – A White Pigeon man is in custody in connection with a woman who was found dead near Decatur.
According to WWMT, the body of 64 year old Melody Rohrer was found Tuesday afternoon by the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office. Rohrer was reported missing Monday, after she was last seen walking between 8:15 AM and 11 AM in the 84,000 block of County Road 215, near the Oak Shores Campground.
Rohrer was a retired nurse from Bronson Methodist Hospital and the grandmother of four.
The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office found Rohrer's coat and boots, but no sign of her. As they investigated the scene further, deputies found items that belonged to Rohrer and skid marks. Deputies determined she had been struck by a vehicle.
As they continued the investigation, deputies determined a 29 year old White Pigeon man struck Rohrer while she was jogging, then removed her body and hid it near Decatur.
The suspect was arrested Tuesday afternoon, and is charged with vehicular manslaughter, concealing the death of an individual and failure to stop at a scene of a crash involving a serious injury.
