(LAGRANGE) – The LaGrange County Council authorized the Parks & Recreation Department to apply for a grant to pursue the acquisition of more land next to Pine Knob County Park.
Parks Superintendent Mike Metz says the grant is a 50-50 matching grant that would allow them to construct a 4,000 foot boardwalk through the Duff Lake Fenn.
Metz says the County's application is likely to score higher if they included the acquisition of some more acreage on the north side of the fenn bordering on County Road 600 North.
They would have to seek funding for the acquisition from outside sources, such as the Cole Foundation or the LaGrange County Community Foundation.
The County's contribution of $75,000 would come from the Rainy Day Fund.
