(COLDWATER) - The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency is now offering Novavax COVID-19 vaccine.

Dr. Karen Luparello, Medical Director with the CHA says Novavax is approved for those age 18 and over. It is not for use as a booster dose, so a person wanting Novavax would receive 2 injections with 3 to 8 weeks between doses.

Luparello says Novavax contains harmless pieces of spike proteins of the virus that causes COVID-19. The vaccine also contains fats, salts, sugar, acid, and adjuvant as a carrier. This type of technology has been used to create vaccines for a long time. It is something that some people may feel more comfortable with rather than mRNA technology. Luparello says they are pleased to offer residents of the tri-county area choices related to COVID-19 vaccination.
