(SHERWOOD TOWNSHIP) – A 17 year old English boy has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a computer incident with a Branch County child.
According to the Michigan State Police, the 17 year old was arrested late last week following their investigation of the incident. Troopers were contacted by the victim's parents and then started the investigation with the assistance of their 5tha District Computer Crimes Unit.
It's alleged the 11 year old Sherwood Township child accidentally sent an inappropriate photo to another person online using Snapchat. The person who received the photo was claiming to be a 15 year old girl. The suspect then tried to blackmail the Sherwood Township child into sending them more pictures. It was then the 11 year old told their parents.
Michigan State Police were contacted and started their investigation and got a court order to look into the suspect's Snapchat account where they found pictures and videos, with some of them of sexually abusive material that involved underage children.
MSP were able to contact England's attache at the National Children Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Then with the help of the Department of Homeland Security, the evidence was sent to English investigators who found the suspect and arrested them.
Because the individuals involved are all under the age of 18, MSP says their names are not being released. The case is still under investigation.
