(COLDWATER) – A suspect has been arraigned following an alleged incident at a Coldwater motel.
Branch County District Court officials say 21 year old Adler Torres-Perez was arraigned on two felony charges of third degree criminal sexual conduct, following his arrest by the Coldwater Police Department. Officers were called to the hotel on October 15, where the alleged incident happened. The alleged victim, a 15 year old girl, told police that she recognized Torres-Perez after seeing his picture the next day on a Facebook message he sent her.
Investigators say that Torres-Perez was in Coldwater as part of a construction crew. He does not speak English and interpreters had to be brought in during his arraignment.
Torres-Perez plead not guilty to the two charges, which carry with them a 15 year term in prison if he is found guilty.
Bond was set at $100,000. A no contact order was issued on behalf of the girl if Torres-Perez is able to make bail.
A probable cause hearing is set for October 28 and a preliminary hearing on November 2.
