(COLDWATER) - A bomb threat led to the evacuation of the Branch County Courts Building.
Branch County Sheriff Fred Blankenship says at 9:15 AM Tuesday, Branch County Central Dispatch received a tip of a possible bomb threat at the County Courts Building at 31 Division Street in Coldwater.
Out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety of employees and the public, the building was evacuated while law enforcement personnel assessed the potential threat.
Blankenship says the Michigan State Police responded with a specially trained K-9 Unit to conduct a search. Following a thorough search, the building was cleared and no explosive devices were located.
No injuries were reported and the matter is still under investigation.
Blakenship says he would like to thank the Michigan State Police, Branch County Central Dispatch, court personnel and all responding agencies for their
assistance and cooperation in ensuring the safety of everyone involved.
Blakenship says the safety and security of the courthouse employees, judicial personnel and the public remain a top priority for his office. All reported threats are taken seriously and will be addressed accordingly.
